Through the main project two-year project DECIDE  activities – 3 webinars, 3 live workshops and a conference held in December 2025 at the EP in Brussels, trainings and workshops were conducted through which participants from Croatia, Austria, Lithuania and Slovenia were informed about participation and the importance of involving citizens in decision-making and democratic processes in the EU, future priorities of Europe after the 2024 elections, media literacy and numerous topics related to media literacy – tools and methods,  fact-checkers, critical thinking, and the education of young people.

As preparation for the online project event, Public Forum titled “Priorities for EU policies after 2024 European Parliament elections”, a pre-Event Online Survey was conducted in October 2024. Feedback was received from 287 participants with 10 different nationalities, most of them from Austria and Croatia. The Survey was based on the “Strategic Agenda 2024 – 2029”, which had been adopted by the EC in June 2024.

Challenges and areas that need to be protected

Regarding the future of Europe, most participants stressed that human dignity, human rights or freedom and democracy are  precisely the areas that need to be protected. They also emphasized the importance of a healthy family structure as the most important value for raising future generations of Europeans capable of sustaining and further advancing a free and democratic Europe.

Most participants highlighted the challenges to Europe’s security. Among other things, they stated is important that EU policies focus on comprehensive cooperation between EU countries on migration and border management.

Furthermore, participants strongly suggested that promoting an innovation- and business-friendly environment is key to ensuring a prosperous and competitive Europe.

As part of the this project activity, a white paper titled “Priorities for EU policies after 2024 European Parliament elections” was developed. It presents citizens’ visions of political priorities after 2024, identifies key challenges in policymaking and suggests effective recommendations for decision makers. Document was widely disseminated to newly elected Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to ensure that citizens’ voices influence legislative and strategic processes within the EU.
